Taking commissions for portrait painting / portrait illustrations

I'm really enjoying portrait painting at the moment. Please have a look at the images below as a guide as to the kind of work I produce. Please contact me at gregorlaird@hotmail.com if you would like to discuss a commission. I work from photos so no need for long sitting times. Prices are very reasonable and start at £60 for an A4 black and white portrait.

Edinburgh based portrait painter

Raja Gemini Menergy flyer

Menergy played host to the winner of season 3 of RuPaul's Drag Race - Raja Gemini. Raja has based many of her looks on her East Indian heritage and so I decided to make her a Kali-esque multi-armed deity/demon.

Savage Unicorn Mask

This mask is made from a bull horn, leather, suede and goat fur. Based on mythological monsters.

Sarah Green - fine artist logo

Very proud that one of the most talented people I know asked me to design a logo and take some photos for her blog. Sarah Green is a painter, costume designer, illustrator, collector and all-round creative powerhouse. Her interests in anatomy and the human spirit informed my design.

Please visit her blog here.

Three Rivers Systems Development Company logo

A software development company based in Houston asked me to come up with a logo for their rebrand.

A Midsummer Night's Scream - zombie logo character

I was commissioned to draw a character to help advertise 'A Midsummer Night's Scream' - a weekend horror festival taking place in Thurso, Scotland. More information on Twitter.

This isn't the first time I've drawn a zombie however! Click here for more undead!

I cut up the promo pictures supplied to create this collage-style effect.

Erotic Art Festival artwork

A few months ago I posted about the Erotic Art Festival I was taking part in. I never posted the illustrations I did for it, so I thought I'd remedy that. The illustrations were produced in vinyl - gloss black on matte black to emulate the look of rubber or vinyl to add to the Gods and monsters being fetishistic.

I took photos of the finished images to show how the light moves over them and affects how they are seen as the viewer moves past as parts of the images appear then disappear.

Kill Star Clothing trade show flyer

Kill Star Clothing commissioned me to design a flyer for their trade show. They had seen my Sharon Needles design for Menergy and wanted something in a similar vein as their latest collection was inspired by the dark and the unorthodox.

I took lots of hints from the Kill Star Tumblr, a spooky and stylish pinboard of all things satanic and magickal.

Sharon Needles live at Menergy

Sharon Needles, the biggest star to have emerged from RuPaul's Drag Race was booked to perform at Menergy. I couldn't wait to start designing the poster. Much to my dismay, I was sent the over-used promo photo from the TV show by her agent which has been all over the internet for about a year. I wasn't sure I was allowed to mess about with this image, but I did anyway and it was approved.

I decided to use The Seal of Lucifer from the Grimorium Verum to break up her face as one of her catchphrases is 'Hail Satan!'.

I also created little icons for web and print use:

Some weeks after my flyer had made it's way round the internet via Tumblr, someone pointed this out to me... by illustrator Tom Christophersen. (Tom uploaded it onto his website and has never acknowledged that I re-created the image digitally). I hear that Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery...

Menergeddon (Menergy Apocalypse)

The end of the 5,125-year Mayan Long Calendar had triggered predictions of a catastrophic end for mankind but fortunately it didn't happen.
